DNA by Dennis Kelly
This session will enable students to develop their understanding of this popular KS3 and GCSE text. Led by Director Anna Friend, whose production of DNA has received outstanding feedback from schools since 2018, students will take part in practical exploration of the text, discussion and performance presentation.

Anna Friend
Artistic DirectorAnna Friend is the Artistic Director of Quirky Bird Theatre. She is an award winning director and accomplished actor, alongside an experienced and passionate drama educator. Her work has been described as, ‘powerful and creative’ and over the past ten years Quirky Bird Theatre has developed a loyal following from schools and students across the UK.
Kieran Boon
Core TeamKieran Boon is a core member of the Quirky Bird team, having graced our stages as John Tate and Adam in DNA and as tour captain for The IT. Kieran is an imaginative and detailed theatre maker with a passion for physical theatre as well as being an accomplished actor. He continues to work closely with director Anna Friend as well as developing his own creative practice.
✦ Over the course of the day we will explore:
Characters from the text
Who are they, how to perform them and look at key sections.
Directing choices
Using the ensemble sections we will discuss and explore how to navigate stage space and illustrate the changing dynamics within the text.
Design elements
Students will have the opportunity to experiment with staging elements and discuss their decision making in relation to the action.
